World’s Largest Yacht AZZAM Leaves Shipyard

The 180m/590ft superyacht AZZAM has remained at the Lürssen shipyard since her delivery in October 2013, but last week made her maiden voyage – arriving in Gibraltar over the weekend.

It is not known why AZZAM has spent the last year in the yard though it has been indicated that her Abu Dhabi-based Owner wanted to complete her birth in the region first. Upon her delivery last year she took the title for the world’s largest yacht from the 162.5m/533’ Blohm + Voss built ECLIPSE which was delivered to her Owner Roman Ambramovich in 2010.

The build of motor yacht AZZAM took three years and combined the expertise of some of the yachting industry’s leading designers and engineers. Her principal was created by Eng. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi with exterior design by Mario Pedol from Nauta Yachts and interior styling by renowned French designer Christophe Leoni, the results of which have been described as an ‘enormous achievement’ by Lürssen.

Though AZZAM now tops the list of world’s largest yachts, superyacht ECLIPSE continues to be the largest on the global charter fleet. With accommodation for up to 36 guests in 18 impressive staterooms as well as facilities that include three helipads, two swimming pools and a submarine, she is also arguably the most exclusive and best-equipped yacht available for charter.
