139m Lurssen Superyacht Project REDWOOD

139m Lurssen Superyacht Ordered - Project REDWOOD

The sale of a 139m+ Lürssen superyacht Project REDWOOD was announced during last week’s Monaco Yacht Show by Robert Moran of shipyard Moran Yacht & Ship.

First news of Project REDWOOD, measuring over 139 metres, was publicised on social media in May of this year by designers Nuvolari Lenard Design. Referred to as ‘Project Opus’ (a possible previous project name, though this is unconfirmed), the shipyard announced that they had conceived and designed to Moran Yacht & Ship Specification. They did not make any further comment on the project, which has been shrouded in secrecy until recently.

During an interview at the Monaco Yacht Show, President Robert Moran of Moran Yacht and Ship announced that the shipyard “have recently signed a 139 metre plus project that will be built in Northern Europe.” Elaborating on the build - to be the largest and most expensive charter yachts built if to join the charter market - he said that Project Redwood is “truly something different,” adding that “It’s not just a big yacht, it’s got so many unique features.”

Compliant with the Passenger Yacht Code, motor yacht REDWOOD will accommodate as many as 36 guest in 20 staterooms on board, with her unique amenities to be announced throughout the build process and likely to include at least one helipad, an elevator, a Jacuzzi and/or swimming pool and Zero Speed Stabilizers, as per a yacht of this size and calibre. Her propulsion system is currently undisclosed.

. When completed, she will showcase another collaboration between the teams that worked together to create superyachts such as the impressive 86m/283ft motor yacht QUATTROELLE.

The superyacht is expected for delivery in 2019 to a U.S.-based owner. Reflecting on America’s resurgence on the yachting market, Robert Moran stated that “Project Redwood is just another example of how the USA is getting back into the market” thanks to enjoying a strong financial position globally, in comparison to European counterparts.

As the industry looks in its healthiest state year post-2008 – outlined in our Monaco Yacht Show charter report – Project REDWOOD looks like she will meet the growing demand for chartering superyachts over 100 metres, with only five yachts currently listed for charter, the most recent of which was 101.5m/333ft Feadship motor yacht SYMPHONY.

It cannot yet be foreseen if superyacht REDWOOD (project name) will become available for chartering, check back to YachtCharterFleet for all the latest updates of this new build.
